Realistic Vikings Free Agent No. 6

Willie Gay Jr. - LB

2023 Team: Kansas City Chiefs

Signing a contributor to Super Bowl-winning teams seems like a good idea and linebacker Willie Gay Jr. is finishing up his rookie contract and could move from outside linebacker to an interior role with the Minnesota Vikings.

Gay started 47 of his 57 games played in Kansas City but had a bit of a down year in 2023, statistically. He isn't a specialist in any particular role, but he plays the ball well and is a high-effort player who is always looking to make a play.

A second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Gay has been known to knock passes out of the air and for being a solid tackler. He is not at his best when dropping into coverage or going after the opposing quarterback.

Willie Gay Jr. could pair pretty well with Ivan Page Jr. in the middle of the Minnesota Vikings defense as long as the team doesn't ask him to do too much. Spotrac estimates his 2024 value to be approximately $7 million, but that seems a little high, especially if signed to a multi-year contract.
