Future of Danielle Hunter with Vikings in doubt after recent report
By Adam Carlson
Minnesota Vikings star pass rusher Danielle Hunter is reported to have trade interest from other NFL teams.
The Minnesota Vikings have been busy making some extremely difficult decisions this offseason and now it appears they may have another hard call to make when it comes to edge rusher Danielle Hunter.
Hunter's camp has already expressed displeasure with his current contract situation but now it seems teams have been calling about the availability of Hunter in regards to a possible trade out of Minnesota.
NFL Network and NFL.com Insider Ian Rapoport recently shared on Twitter that sources tell him "the interest is real" regarding Hunter and that the current situation is complex.
in the tweet as well as the accompanying video, Rapoport says "teams" have been calling the Minnesota Vikings and said Hunter is a good player at a premium position, empasizing his low salary cap hit for the 2023 season.
Rapoport does express some concern about the Vikings' ability to replace him if the is dealt. Minnesota already traded away fellow edge rusher Za'Darius Smith this offseason and would need another new starter if Hunter is dealt.
Although Danielle Hunter is a fantastic player when healthy and there should be a mutual interest between him and the Vikings, that doesn't mean that a deal will be able to get done to keep the linebacker in a purple and gold jersey long-term.
If Hunter is truly set to leave after this season, it would make sense for the Vikings to seriously listen to offers for his services and deal the Pro Bowl passer rusher to the highest bidder if the right deal is offered.
This will definitely be a story to continue watching to see how it unfolds. Something will likely have to happen with Hunter this offseason, and it appears as though all options are on the table at this point in time.
