Greatest Minnesota Vikings pass-catching trios from every decade

1980s:

  • Anthony Carter
  • Hassan Jones
  • Steve Jordan

Years spent together:

  • 1986-1992

Best year together:

  • 1988

Steve Jordan was the first of this trio to arrive in Minnesota, having been a seventh-round pick out of Brown in the 1982 draft. By 1985, Jordan was one of the best tight ends in the league after collecting 68 receptions and another 58 in 1986.

In 1985, Carter joined Jordan after signing with the Vikings by way of the Oakland Invaders of the USFL. Then, in 1986, Hassan Jones was selected in the fifth round by Minnesota.

The trio racked up big numbers for the Vikings each year they played together and their best season collectively was in 1988. That year, Carter caught 72 passes, Jones had 40, and Jordan added 57 for a total of 169 receptions. Minnesota went 11-5 in 1988 and lost in the Divisional round to San Francisco.

It should be mentioned that Leo Lewis (used primarily as a punt returner) was also a dependable receiver for the Vikes during this period as well. Although Lewis didn’t catch as many passes as his teammates, in 1986, the quartet combined for 156 total receptions.
