Despite all of the NFL head coaching vacancies filling up, Brian Flores could potentially still leave the Minnesota Vikings this year for another coaching job.

Following the announcement from the Washington Commanders on Thursday that they were hiring Dan Quinn to be their new head coach, Minnesota Vikings fans rejoiced as the news all but confirmed Brian Flores would be returning as the team's defensive coordinator for the 2024 season.

But, unfortunately, that ship hasn't officially sailed just yet.

Thanks to a recent hiring made by the Green Bay Packers, the Vikings could still lose their current defensive coordinator to another job before the start of the 2024 campaign.

Minnesota Vikings coach Brian Flores listed as a candidate for Boston College opening

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Jeff Hafley is leaving his job as the Boston College head coach to become the new defensive coordinator for the Packers.

With Hafley's decision, a head coach opening has now been created at Boston College.

Following this news, the New England Football Journal has listed Flores as one of multiple external candidates who could be in contention to become Boston College's new head coach.

The connection between the school and Minnesota's current defensive coordinator makes sense, considering Flores spent five years as a linebacker for Boston College from 1999 to 2003.

He's also very familiar with the location, as he spent 2004 to 2018 as a part of the New England Patriots staff as both an assistant coach and a scout.

Is Flores a realistic candidate for the current opening at Boston College though?

It's certainly a possibility, but at this moment in time, it just seems like the Vikings defensive coordinator is just being included in the conversation.

Flores has never been a coach at the college level, and considering all of the uncertainty surrounding college football these days with the transfer portal and NIL deals, that might not be a career path he's interested in taking.

So, for now, it seems like Minnesota will probably still have their current defensive coordinator for the 2024 season. But we all know how quickly things can change in the world of football, so Flores remaining with the Vikings this year still isn't a complete guarantee.
