The Minnesota Vikings made the tough decision to move on from quarterback Jaren Hall and sign Brett Rypien leading up to the 2024 NFL season. It was reported that the team hoped to bring Hall back for the practice squad once he cleared waivers.

Hall did end up clearing waivers, but the former fifth-round pick out of BYU will surprisingly not be re-joining the Vikings and will instead join a team in the NFC West and land on their practice squad instead of Minnesota's.

Jaren Hall not returning to Vikings, lands with new team in NFC West

On Monday, the Seattle Seahawks announced on their official website that they have signed Jaren Hall to their practice squad. His third season in the NFL will be spent in the Emerald City and not the Twin Cities.

Hall played in three games for the Vikings during his two seasons, starting two of those contests, In those games, he completed 13 of his 20 pass attempts for 168 yards and one interception and was sacked four times.

Heading into the upcoming season, Minnesota has Sam Darnold, Nick Mullens, and Brett Rypien as the quarterbacks on their 53-man roster with rookie J.J. McCarthy on injured reserve. The Vikings do not currently have a quarterback on their practice squad but will likely make that adjustment soon.

With the news that Myles Gaskin will be returning kicks for the Vikings, the running back will likely be elevated from the practice squad before the Week 1 game against the New York Giants. That transaction would cause Minnesota to need to drop one player from the 53, but would open a spot on the practice squad for a potential quarterback.

The initial decision to waive Jaren Hall in favor of Brett Rypien confused some fans who wanted to see more from the young passer. However, this move makes sense if you believe that Minnesota is all-in on J.J. McCarthy for the future and wants to surround him with as much experience and knowledge as possible.

Jaren Hall could have more opportunities to move up while with the Seattle Seahawks, making his decision to join them over the Minnesota Vikings a smart, but tough call. When looking at future quarterback plans for a franchise, Seattle's options are wide open while Minnesota is putting their eggs in the McCarthy basket.
