Johnny Football is pumped about the Vikings newest coaching hire

Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel shared his excitement online on Tuesday after the Minnesota Vikings announced the hiring of Josh McCown.

Kevin O'Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah talking about Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson weren't the only headlines the Minnesota Vikings made on Tuesday.

Minnesota also revealed the hiring of Josh McCown as the team's new quarterbacks coach. McCown replaces Chris O'Hara, who held the role for the last two seasons and he will now be the Vikings pass game specialist moving forward.

Minnesota's newest coaching hire drew plenty of reactions, including one from a former polarizing quarterback whom McCown shared a locker room with during his NFL playing career.

Johnny Manziel ecstatic about Josh McCown joining Minnesota Vikings

When McCown was a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2015, he was part of a position group that included former first-round pick Johnny Manziel. In addition to being teammates with Manziel, McCown's quarterbacks coach during the 2015 campaign with the Browns was O'Connell.

So, after it was announced that McCown would be joining the Vikings for the 2024 season as part of O'Connell's coaching staff on Tuesday, Manziel shared his excitement online with a post on Twitter celebrating the hiring.

Manziel's 2015 season with McCown and O'Connell in Cleveland actually turned out to be his last in the NFL as the former Heisman Trophy winner quickly fizzled out of the league after just two years for a multitude of reasons.

Coincidentally, Manziel just recently shared a glowing review about his time in Cleveland with McCown during an appearance on the "Club Shay Shay" show with Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe.

"When Josh McCown came in, the shift in [the Browns quarterback room] went through the roof of positivity.

When I got there, he comes up to me and he goes, 'You want to be a great quarterback?' I go, 'Yeah.' He goes, 'Tie a string to the end of my backpack, and you can follow me around wherever you want, and I'll show you what it takes to really be a quarterback in the NFL.'"

Now, things obviously didn't work out for Manziel during his time with the Browns, but it's not like McCown didn't try to help him.

Who McCown will be working with inside the Vikings' quarterback room for the 2024 season is something that is currently unknown.

Kirk Cousins is set to become a free agent in March, and despite Minnesota saying they would like to re-sign him this offseason, there is no guarantee that he will be returning as the team's starting quarterback this year.

If Cousins doesn't re-sign with the Vikings this offseason, it's quite possible that McCown could be working with a rookie as the team's starting signal-caller for the 2024 campaign.

But whoever ends up being Minnesota's starting quarterback for next season, the team clearly feels that McCown has what it takes to get the most out of the position group in 2024.
