Wide receiver Justin Jefferson recently spoke about his current contract situation with the Minnesota Vikings.
There is no debate that the Minnesota Vikings are a more exciting team when Justin Jefferson is on the field. However, the superstar wide receiver will be playing under his rookie contract's fifth-year option during the 2024 NFL season.
Pressure is on the Vikings front office to get an extension done before the conclusion of the upcoming season. Jefferson is likely to become the NFL's highest-paid receiver once his deal is done and should be locked down in the extension for many years to come.
Justin Jefferson recently spoke to SiriusXM podcast host Adam Schein about his contract situation and future with the Minnesota Vikings.
Justin Jefferson expects the Minnesota Vikings to get a deal done
During his talk with Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio, Justin Jefferson didn't sound too concerned about his contract extension getting completed. In fact, he said that although he doesn't really know the exact current status that "only time will tell" when it is completed.
"“I feel like eventually, the Vikings will do what they need to do to have me in the building, but I don’t really know at this very moment, only time will tell.”"Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings)
For the Minnesota Vikings, there are options if a contract extension does not get finished by the end of the 2024 NFL season. They could use their franchise tag on Jefferson to keep their star pass-catcher with the team as negotiations continue, but that should only be done as a last resort.
No matter where you rank Jefferson among NFL wide receivers, his importance to the Minnesota Vikings is obvious and his contract extension should be a priority as the team prepares for an offseason full of difficult decisions.
