Shortly after the unfortunate injury news about rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy was shared on Wednesday, Minnesota Vikings fans were dealt another potential gut-punch when it was revealed that second-year wide receiver Jordan Addison had to leave the team's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns early with an injured ankle.

Addison was taken off the field on a cart, so, unsurprisingly, Vikings fans assumed the absolute worst. However, the young receiver apparently avoided a serious ankle injury, according to Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell during on Thursday.

O'Connell added that he doesn't think the injury will force Addison to miss "any extended time," so it seems like he will probably still be able to play in the Vikings' regular-season opener on September 8th against the New York Giants.

Jordan Addison not the only Minnesota Vikings player to suffer an injury on Wednesday

In addition to Addison, O'Connell also revealed that Minnesota linebacker Blake Cashman sustained a finger injury that required stitches during Wednesday's practice against the Browns. The Vikings head coach said Cashman will be back on the field in the near future when his stitches are ready to be removed.

Lastly, O'Connell shared that Minnesota wide receiver Thayer Thomas suffered a concussion in Wednesday's practice, and he will not play during Saturday's preseason game in Cleveland due to being in the concussion protocol.

So, for what feels like one of the first times this summer, the Vikings were actually able to escape anything significantly serious when it came to their player injuries on Wednesday.

Addison being available for Week 1 against the Giants still isn't a guarantee, so that will definitely be something to keep an eye on. And even if he is healthy enough to play in Minnesota's regular-season opener, the injury could still affect his performance in the matchup.

Still, after already losing McCarthy and cornerback Mekhi Blackmon for the entire 2024 campaign due to injuries, the Vikings should really just be thankful that Addison still has a chance to make an impact in the upcoming season.
