On Thursday, the Minnesota Vikings signed veteran tight end Robert Tonyan to the team's active roster and released running back Myles Gaskin.
At first glance, it doesn't seem like much. Just the Vikings adding some depth at tight end before taking on the New York Jets in London, England, on Sunday. But when looking at the injury report that Minnesota also put out on Thursday, Tonyan might have been added to the team's active roster for a more important reason.
On Minnesota's second injury report of the week, tight end Josh Oliver was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice because of a wrist injury. Oliver's injured wrist forced him to be limited in Wednesday's practice as well. So, with the signing of Tonyan, it seems like the Vikings are at the very least, concerned about Oliver not being able to play on Sunday.
Updated Minnesota Vikings injury report for Week 5 also features some good news
While Oliver's chances of playing this weekend appear to be in doubt, Minnesota starting linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. seems to be on track to return to the field for the first time since Week 2.
On Thursday, Pace was a full participant in the Vikings' practice after being listed as limited on Wednesday. The second-year linebacker has been sidelined with an ankle injury for each of Minnesota's last two games, but it seems like he should be good to go for the team's trip to London this week.
Over on New York's second injury report of the week, quarterback Aaron Rodgers got in a full practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday with a knee injury, so he's expected to play this weekend.
The most notable part of the Jets' updated injury report was the addition of offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, who was listed as a limited participant on Thursday due to an ankle injury.
