Vikings player No. 3

Josh Metellus, safety

Harrison Smith returning for another year locked down one of the starting safety spots and the initial thought is that it would be a competition between last year's returning starter Camryn Bynum and 2022 first round draft pick Lewis Cine for the other spot.

Even if that is still the case. Josh Metellus seemed set to return as a player who would primarily be a special team's player and would be toward the bottom of the depth chart. But his play is questioning a lot of that logic.

If Metellus continues to show improvement he could see his name inserted into the competition. If not this year, Minnesota could have another starting safety spot opening up when the 2023 NFL season comes to a close.

For an individual who was likely a fringe roster player, Josh Metellus is making the most of his opportunity to secure a spot on the team's 53-man roster and earn more then just snaps on special teams.
