The most underrated Minnesota Vikings moves this offseason

Minnesota Vikings work with Harrison Smith

While the Minnesota Vikings were saying farewell to other veteran players who were responsible for big hits against the salary cap this season, something different happened with Harrison Smith this offseason.

Smith turned 34 years old this February but is still playing at a high level in Minnesota's defense. This will be his 12th season with the purple and gold after being pick 29 overall by the Vikings in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Considering Minnesota moved on from both Patrick Peterson and Cameron Dantzler, having an experienced player and a team leader in the secondary should be very helpful for the development of young players around Smith.

Smith still carries a salary cap hit of over $11.8 million for the 2023 NFL season, but the Minnesota Vikings likely expect his play to meet expectations. His cap hits will be back closer to $20 million in 2024 and 2025 with less than $8 million in guaranteed money, meaning this likely isn't a long-term investment.
