Both edge rushing outside linebacker starters from last year will likely be gone. Za'Darius Smith has already been traded away and it seems like only a matter of time before Danielle Hunter is dealt away as well.
Paying former Saints edge rusher Marcus Davenport what they did for the upcoming season essentially means they will need to insert him into the starting lineup to get any sort of value out of his signing.
It should be fun to see if D.J. Wonnum or Patrick Jones III end up as the starter across from Davenport. Both are high-potential players who might be able to evolve into full-time starters for the Vikings.
Bringing a fourth edge rusher with youth and special teams potential is a smart move. Undrafted free agent Luiji Vilain will be fun to watch this preseason and he will have an opportunity to secure a roster spot with a good performance.
