Vikings 53-man roster projection

Running backs (5)

  • Alexander Mattison
  • Kene Nwangwu
  • Ty Chandler
  • DeWayne McBride
  • C.J. Ham

An injury to Alexander Mattison during training camp has the Minnesota Vikings a little stressed, considering the team moved on from previous starter Dalvin Cook and will need to make up that production.

Ty Chandler missed 12 games last year with a thumb injury but the young running back managed to impress head coach Kevin O'Connell and could be in line for a big role this year. If he can continue to produce well, he will earn playing time.

Meanwhile, Kene Nwangwu is struggling with an injury and won't see a lot of action until he is healthy enough to return for kickoff duties and compete for offensive snaps. Plus, DeWayne McBride couldn't impress in Week 1 of the preseason and may not be ready to contribute.

Fullback C.J. Ham should feel confident in his roster spot after signing an extension this offseason but could be needed to help out more in pass protection while acting as a lead blocker in the Vikings rushing attack.
