Vikings are 'best fit' for former Super Bowl winning cornerback in free agency
ESPN projects the Minnesota Vikings as the best potential fit for Tennessee Titans cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting.
After missing out on the playoffs last season, the Minnesota Vikings will be looking to make some improvements over the offseason.
One area where Minnesota could look to add some talent is at the cornerback position, and one potential target there is Sean Murphy-Bunting of the Tennessee Titans, as suggested by ESPN's Matt Bowen. Murphy-Bunting, who is headed for free agency, won a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in 2021.
In a recent article, Bowen listed Minnesota as the best fit for Murphy-Bunting in terms of a potential landing spot. He had the following to say about his thoughts.
"I originally had Murphy-Bunting to Arizona here, but I believe the Vikings will be seeking some corners for Brian Flores' aggressive system, and he'd work well in Minnesota.
With his long frame and fluid hips, Murphy-Bunting can challenge on the outside or match in blitz coverage. He has eight interceptions and 22 pass breakups over five pro seasons, with two picks in 2023 in Tennessee."
Could Sean Murphy-Bunting end up with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024?
Murphy-Bunting spent last season in Tennessee after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay after they selected him in the second round (39th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Over the course of his career so far, Murphy-Bunting has compiled 245 total tackles, 29 pass deflections, eight interceptions, six forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a touchdown.
At just 26 years old, Murphy-Bunting should still have plenty of productive football ahead of him. So, the Vikings shouldn't necessarily be worried about diminishing returns if they were interested in inking him to a deal.
But, given his age and skillset, Murphy-Bunting will have no shortage of suitors in free agency. So, the Vikings would undoubtedly have some competition when it comes to signing him if they decide to go in that direction.
