Vikings and Danielle Hunter end standoff, reach new deal
By Adam Patrick
Pro Bowl pass rusher Danielle Hunter and the Minnesota Vikings have reportedly agreed to a new one-year contract worth $20 million.
Ever since he entered the NFL back in 2015, Danielle Hunter has been a dominant force on the defensive side of the ball for the Minnesota Vikings.
Minnesota is the only team Hunter has ever played for at the pro level, and this year, it seemed like that was closer to coming to an end than ever before.
Well, on Sunday, any thoughts of the veteran pass rusher suiting up for another franchise in 2023 were put to rest as the Vikings and Hunter agreed to a new one-year contract. According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the new one-year deal is worth $20 million, and it includes $17 million guaranteed in addition to having a provision that prohibits Minnesota from placing the franchise tag on him in 2024.
Minnesota Vikings and Danielle reach a deal that benefits both sides
After months of contract negotiations going nowhere, the Vikings and Hunter were finally able to agree to a new deal that benefits both parties.
For Hunter, he gets a nice pay raise for the upcoming season, and he gets to become a free agent in 2024. If he performs well this year, he could have a chance to land a very lucrative deal in free agency during the 2024 offseason.
For Minnesota, they get to keep their best pass rusher on their roster, and they can move on from the three-time Pro Bowler after the 2023 season if they wish to do so.
With the Hunter problem solved, the attention will now shift to the Vikings getting extensions done for wide receiver Justin Jefferson and tight end T.J. Hockenson. Expect those to happen at some point before the start of the 2023 season if agreements are able to be reached.
