Candidate #1: Josh Boyer - Former Dolphins Defensive Coordinator

As Brian Flores's right-hand man, Josh Boyer served as the Dolphins' defensive coordinator from 2020-22 as well as the defensive backs coach in 2019 and If the Vikings are looking for someone who understands the basic concepts of Flores's scheme, then Boyer would be an excellent fit.

Boyer’s tenure as defensive coordinator got off to a hot start, helping Flores lead the unit to a top-10 finish in total defense. 2021 wasn’t a similar situation as 2020, and the defense saw a pretty steep drop in defensive production as the team's defense finished 16th in total defense.

Fortunately, for Boyer, he impressed newly hired Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniels enough to keep him as the defensive coordinator and playcaller for the 2022 season.

The Boyer-McDaniels partnership was short-lived as Boyer was relieved of his duties after one season as McDaniels defensive coordinator. A defense that had suffered some injuries throughout the year ultimately led to Boyer's dismissal but many were surprised when Boyer didn't land a job for the 2023 season.

Boyer would be the most logical outside hire for Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and the Minnesota Vikings to be the next defensive coordinator.
