Minnesota Vikings extend contract of veteran defensive tackle
It was announced on Tuesday that the Vikings are signing veteran defensive tackle Harrison Phillips to a two-year contract extension as shared in a post on X by NFL Insider and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Signed as a free agent prior to the start of the 2022 NFL season, Phillips was a third-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in the 2018 NFL Draft. Currently in his seventh season as a pro, the 28-year-old defensive lineman Is an important part of the trenches in the Vikings' defensive front.
In each of the last two seasons, Phillips started all 17 games. However, 2023 was a standout year for the six-foot-three, 307-pound defender. During that season, Phillips had career-highs with 92 combined tackles and three sacks.
Pelissero made sure to include that Phillips was the Vikings' representative for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which honors a player's commitment to philanthropy and community impact combined with being a good player on the field.
This extension is noted to be a two-year deal worth up to $19 million that includes $13 million in guaranteed money. With that extension, Phillips will be tied to the Vikings through the 2026 NFL season.
Harrison Phillips has been a solid and consistent part of the Minnesota Vikings defense under defensive coordinator Brian Flores and his extension should help to keep the defensive trenches looking solid for the future.
Minnesota is putting themselves in a good position for the future by locking down important players on both sides of the ball and rewarding them with healthy contracts to keep those players happy going forward.
Congratulations to defensive tackle Harrison Phillips on his two-year contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings. He should continue to be a powerful and important part of the team's defense for many years to come while being a great player to have in the locker room and community as well.
