Russell Wilson signing with the Minnesota Vikings seems less likely after a recent report revealed a possible visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the quarterback.
With a Kirk Cousins exit feeling like it's becoming more and more likely as each day passes this year, there has been plenty of speculation about who will end up taking over as the starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings for the 2024 season.
Following his recent release by the Denver Broncos, veteran signal-caller Russell Wilson has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Cousins in Minnesota.
However, Wilson possibly becoming the team's next starting quarterback is not something that has caused a great deal of excitement within the Vikings fan base. So, a recent report about the Pro Bowl passer potentially meeting with an AFC North team in the near future is something that should help Minnesota fans sleep a little better at night.
Minnesota Vikings fans should be ecstatic about reported possible meeting between Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers
Despite the fact that his release won't become official until the new league year begins next week on March 13, the Broncos are already allowing Wilson to meet with other teams about a potential contract for next season.
There haven't been any reported negotiations between the Vikings and the veteran quarterback yet. However, he could reportedly be meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the near future.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac on Thursday, the "Steelers are interested in signing Russell Wilson and are tentatively planning to meet with the former Broncos QB before start of free agency."
Dulac also mentioned that Wilson has an interest in signing with Pittsburgh as well.
Currently, Kenny Pickett is the only quarterback under contract with the Steelers for the 2024 season. And despite Pittsburgh selecting Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, it doesn't seem like the team is 100 percent confident in him remaining their starting passer for next season.
If all goes well, Wilson will sign with the Steelers and he will no longer be a possible option to replace Cousins in Minnesota for the 2024 campaign.
