5 Minnesota Vikings most likely to be inactive on game day in 2023

Likely Vikings inactive No. 2
Jay Ward, defensive back
It would be great to get Jay Ward some experience on the field right away, but taking in the Week 1 game from the sidelines wouldn't be the worst way for the rookie defensive back to get his first taste of the NFL.
His versatility is an asset, but it's hard to look at the roster and see a specific role for him. Byron Murphy Jr, Akayleb Evans, Mekhi Blackmon, Andrew Booth Jr. and NaJee Thompson each will likely take priority as cornerbacks.
As far as being able to play safety, the Vikings are pretty good on that front, too. As stated earlier, the team already has two established starters and a backup they invested a top draft pick in who would take priority in activation.
Ward was a fourth-round draft pick this year and shows good potential but the Minnesota Vikings shouldn't be in any rush to throw him into action. If they let him learn slowly, it could be a great investment in the young talent.
