A member of the legendary Purple People Eaters defense of the Minnesota Vikings is once again a nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
There has been a long debate about football experts as to whether or not former Minnesota Vikings lineman and member of the Purple People Eaters deserves to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Marshall has been passed over multiple times for the Hall of Fame but will get another chance at induction this year since he was named one of the 31 Senior nominees named as part of the 60 semifinalists up for a gold jacket.
The announcement was made on the official website of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The field of 60 senior and coach/contributor semifinalists will be trimmed to 12 of each on July 27 with the meeting to choose up to three to be inducted this year.
Jim Marshall played for the Browns in 1960 before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings for the 1961 season and stayed through the team's 1979 campaign, earning a place in the Vikings Ring of Honor and having his jersey number retired.
He currently holds two NFL records, one for the most consecutive games played with one team (270) and one for most consecutive starts by a defensive player (270 or 289 if including playoff appearances).
Were any other former Minnesota Vikings named as semifinalists?
Running back Roger Craig and offensive lineman Chris Hinton are both also Senior nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, adding to the chances that a former member of the purple and gold could find their way into a gold jacket.
Surprisingly. there were no Coach/Contributor semifinalists from the Minnesota Vikings included among the 60 semifinalists. All three former Minnesota individuals are senior nominees hoping for their chance at glory.
Best of luck to Jim Marshall and the other former Minnesota Vikings players who were named as semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Maybe this will finally be the year the former Purple People Eater is enshrined.
