Vikings captain blames himself for recent Jordan Addison arrest
By Adam Patrick
Heading into his second season with the team, the Minnesota Vikings have high hopes for wide receiver Jordan Addison and what he could potentially achieve. However, Addison's standing with the Vikings certainly took a big hit last week when he was arrested for suspicion of DUI.
It's the second year in a row in which the young receiver has found himself in trouble with the law for a poor decision he made behind the wheel of a car. After this latest incident, it's fair to wonder if Addison has already jeopardized his chances of earning a second contract from Minnesota when his rookie deal expires in a few years.
With Vikings players set to report to the team's training camp next week, Addison is definitely going to have a lot of questions to answer when arrives.
Minnesota Vikings safety Josh Metellus blames himself for Jordan Addison arrest
There have been a variety of different reactions to the news of Addison's arrest since it was first revealed. Plenty were disappointed, but some are also hoping Minnesota can help him figure out a way to stay out of trouble in the future.
In a recent conversation with KSTP's Darren Wolfson, Vikings safety Josh Metellus, who was one of Minnesota's team captains last season, shared some of his thoughts on Addison's recent arrest.
"Whatever happens, happens. But I'm there for him. He's my brother. His mistakes [are] our mistakes. As a leader of the team, I put that on me. I woke up like, 'Yeah, this is my fault. I gotta lead the young guys in a better direction.'
That's what the leaders of the team [are] for. [We're] the ones that take the brunt of everything. We wear the 'C' on our chest for a reason, and we gotta lead the guys in the right way."
The Vikings really couldn't ask for more from Metellus in his reaction to what happened to Addison. These comments just offered more proof of why the veteran safety was named one of Minnesota's team captains last season.
At the same time, Metellus should not feel responsible in any way whatsoever for the trouble Addison found himself in last week. The young wide receiver made a very poor decision and it's up to him to mature and learn from his latest mistake.
