Win moves Kevin O'Connell past Mike Zimmer in the Vikings record book
By leading his team to a victory over the Saints on Sunday, Kevin O'Connell has now won 19 games in his first two seasons as the head coach of the Vikings.
Those 19 wins are now more than the 18 that Mike Zimmer was able to lead Minnesota to during his first two years as the team's head coach. Zimmer's Vikings went 18-14 in his first two seasons with the franchise, and O'Connell's current record since arriving in 2022 is 19-8.
O'Connell now ranks second all-time in wins among Minnesota head coaches in their first two years with the franchise. O'Connell now only trails Dennis Green on the list, who led the Vikings to 20 victories during his first two seasons as the team's head coach.
For those who haven't already realized it, Minnesota still has seven games left on their 2023 schedule. So O'Connell is going to get seven chances to get two more wins and pass Green on the list.
With the way that the Vikings have been playing during the last few weeks, O'Connell might move into the No. 1 spot before the team's bye in Week 13.
