During his media session at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell discussed the team's future with Kirk Cousins.
Whether or not Kirk Cousins will return to be the team's starting quarterback for the 2024 campaign has easily been the biggest topic of this year's offseason for the Minnesota Vikings so far.
On Tuesday, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell spent some time answering questions at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, and he said the following when discussing Cousins' future in Minnesota.
"I believe Kirk wants to be a Viking and we’re going to work to try to make that the outcome."

After sharing that the Vikings are trying to make sure Cousins returns to the team for the 2024 season, O'Connell also admitted that re-signing the quarterback requires "a negotiation" and that a deal needs to be reached that benefits both sides.
If anyone has paid attention to what Minnesota's head coach has said about Cousins during his tenure with the team, none of his comments should come as a surprise.
O'Connell has always spoken highly of the veteran quarterback, and he's made it clear multiple times in the past that he would like Cousins to remain in purple and gold for the 2024 season.
However, his admission about the negotiation on Tuesday lets you know that the Minnesota head coach is also very aware that he might have a new starting quarterback not named Cousins for the 2024 campaign.
If there was no salary cap and the Vikings had an unlimited amount of cash to hand out, then Cousins sticking around for the 2024 season would likely be as close to a guarantee as possible.
But that's not the case, and O'Connell knows that, so he's aware that Minnesota might have to prepare for a life without Cousins in the very near future.
