Vikings news: Minnesota retains late-round draft pick from trade with Arizona
When Kirk Cousins went down with an Achilles' tendon injury, the Minnesota Vikings traded a sixth-round draft pick to the Arizona Cardinals for quarterback Josh Dobbs and a conditional seventh-round pick.
If Dobbs played over 55 percent of the snaps in Minnesota upon his arrival, the Cardinals would get that draft pick back. According to Give Me the Sports, Dobbs had the potential to play 643 snaps but only took 319 for 49.6 percent.
Following Dobbs' rise to fame after getting the Vikings a win in Week 9 against the Falcons was fun, but the young quarterback is now set to become a free agent and is unlikely to return to the purple and gold in 2024.
Previously, the Minnesota Vikings did not have the rights to a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. With that selection, the team now has nine selections throughout the seven rounds of April's draft.
