Vikings news: Minnesota makes two picks in Round 5 of the 2023 NFL Draft
By Adam Carlson
The Minnesota Vikings continued to work hard through Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft by selecting two players in the fifth round on Saturday afternoon.
Day 3 of the NFL Draft is when teams like the Minnesota Vikings fill out their rosters and find great players who may have slipped through the cracks during the pre-draft process despite being extremely talented.
Minnesota owned two selections going into Round 5; No. 158 and No. 164. Considering the Vikings don't seem to have any problem trading picks, it was hard to know if the purple and gold would actually be adding a player to the team in those spots.

The Vikings made a bold move to trade up to pick No. 141 using picks No. 158 and 211 and selected LSU defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy. At 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds according to ESPN, he has good upper-body strength and could provide good depth at a position where Minnesota was a bit thin.
In three years at LSU, Roy played 31 games where he accumulated 97 total tackles including 13.5 for a loss, four sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.
At pick No. 164, the Vikings stayed put and selected BYU quarterback Jaren Hall. At 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, he played for five years at BYU and had an extremely efficient collegiate carrer and will hope to bring that to Minnesota.
Hall completed 65.2 percent of his passes and finished with a ratio of 52 touchdowns to only 11 interceptions and a passing efficiency rating of 158.2. He may be on the shorter side, but he makes good decisions and can create opportunities with his feet if needed.
Congratulations to LSU defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy and BYU quarterback Jaren Hall for being selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Best of luck to them both going forward.
