Vikings Draft 2024: Post-Super Bowl 7-round mock draft
By Luke Parrish
First-Round Pick (5th Overall)
Drake Maye - QB (North Carolina)
Projected Trade: Vikings trade pick No. 11 and a 2025 first-round pick to LA Chargers for pick No. 5
The Los Angeles Chargers are a team to watch as the Vikings look to trade up. With Drake Maye rumored to slide a bit and Jayden Daniels gaining momentum as the second quarterback selected, the Vikings can afford to move up.
Maye should be the clear QB2, in my opinion, and is much closer to Caleb Williams than he is to any of the other quarterbacks as prospects. If he does start to slide, giving up next year's first is worth the risk.
The Chargers are likely going to target a pass catcher or cornerback with their first selection, so moving back six spots should leave them with plenty of options while adding an extra first next year. Jim Harbaugh needs some assets to reset his roster to his liking, and this is certainly a move that can allow that.
Minnesota is also going to be aided by the Washington Commanders, who could pass on a quarterback for wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. if they cannot move up to the first pick.
The only barrier to trade up in this scenario would be the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders, who could all trade up as well.
Given the Chargers share a division with two of those three, Minnesota may end up in a bidding war with Atlanta and could have to offer a bit more than just a future first. If they have to add a Day 2 pick at some point, that is still worth the risk of landing a franchise quarterback.
