Second-Round Pick (42nd Overall)

Trey Benson - RB (Florida State)

Besides quarterback, the Vikings also need to upgrade at running back. Alexander Mattison was a bust as a lead back, and Ty Chandler looked good, but he might be better suited to be a rotational, pass-catching piece.

At pick No. 42, the Vikings have a chance to get one of the best in the entire draft, and that is Trey Benson from Florida State.

Benson has all the traits to be a true workhorse back. He's 6-foot-1 and 223 pounds with good speed and vision. He runs with power and has an excellent burst through the hole. When he gets moving, he's extremely hard to catch.

Speaking of catch, he's a very good receiver out of the backfield and is a guy who simply isn't going to come off the field unless he is injured or needs a breather.

Benson does have some injury concerns in his past, and he'll require thorough medical vetting. He also needs to work on his pass protection, but those are about his only knocks.

He has all the tools to be a star in this offense, the only thing that could hold him back would be his pass-heavy coach Kevin O'Connell.
