Vikings position battle No. 3

Backup running back: Ty Chandler vs. Kene Nwangwu vs. DeWayne McBride

Last season, Alexander Mattison acted as the backup running back to Dalvin Cook for the Minnesota Vikings. Now that Cook is with the New York Jets and Mattison will be the RB1 for the purple and gold, the backup spot is up for grabs.

The Vikings have a few talented, young running backs who can battle for the job in practice and the preseason but none have been able to get much action on offense in regular-season action for Minnesota.

When healthy, Kene Nwangwu is one of the best kick returners in the NFL but has only played 47 offensive snaps in four seasons, running the ball 22 times for 75 yards and four first downs.

Ty Chandler has one season of experience under his belt and played 12 snaps last year, running the ball six times for 20 yards. Even with that limited experience he has looked the best of the three options in the preseason.

DeWayne McBride looks as though he has potential but has yet to truly impress this preseason. He will need to have a very good performance against the Cardinals if he hopes to earn an offensive role this year.
