Vikings extension candidate No. 3

Patrick Jones II, edge rusher

At the moment, Patrick Jones II is penciled in as a starting outside linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings since Danielle Hunter, Marcus Davenport, and D.J. Wonnum are all expected to hit free agency this offseason.

The Vikings selected Jones as one of their four third-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft and has played in 42 games but only started four in his three years as a pro. He played 56 percent of the team's defensive snaps last year but only came away with one sack.

If Jones receives a contract extension, it will likely be for a backup or rotational role in Minnesota. He is a solid special teams player and someone who has the potential to continue to grow as a defender in a purple and gold jersey.

Depending on what the Minnesota Vikings do in free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft, keeping some edge rushers around might be a solid idea, even if Patrick Jones II doesn't become the next Danielle Hunter or Jared Allen.

Estimated extension: 3 years/$12 million with $7 million guaranteed.
