The Minnesota Vikings are working hard at training camp to prepare for the 2024 NFL season. These team activities are important for evaluating new faces on the roster and seeing which players have team chemistry.

One interesting camp battle is between free agent John Parker Romo and sixth-round draft pick Will Reichard for the Vikings' kicking duties. Reichard should be considered the favorite since Minnesota used one of their valuable draft selections on him, but that doesn't guarantee him the job.

The Vikings moved on from last year's kicker following an up-and-down season. Although Greg Joseph was perfect on field goal tries from within 40 yards last season, he only connected on seven of his 13 tries from 40 or more yards out and misfired on two extra-point tries.

The battle between Romo and Reichard could be a quick one if the 23-year-old kicker from Alabama has a good training camp and preseason. Day 4 of training camp may have helped the rookie to move closer to winning the kicking battle.

Recently, Matthew Coller of Purple Insider shared on his X account that Reichard was a perfect five-for-five on his kicks and made them look routine. He added that those kicks were between 33 and 48 yards in distance.

With a roster undergoing several transitions including quarterback, running back, edge rusher, and more, making a change at kicker could have been considered a bold move since Joseph wasn't too bad last season.

However, if the Vikings can find a long-term kicker in Will Reichard, the gamble will be more than worth it. Fans in Minnesota have to be interested to see what a new-look Vikings team will look like now that the general manager and coaching staff aren't trying to bring the team back together year after year in hopes of an improvement.

More than 40 days remain before the Vikings kick off the 2024 NFL season in New Jersey against the New York Giants. That leaves a lot of time for things to change for Minnesota before the rosters are solidified and the team takes the field for meaningful football.

For now, it's exciting to see the rookie kicker for the Minnesota Vikings having a solid training camp. Hopefully, he can continue to excel and earn the starting job for the upcoming season.
