A defensive back for the Minnesota Vikings was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the San Francisco 49ers.
Monday Night Football was the stage for a matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers. It was a hard-fought contest that eventually saw the Vikings get the win at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 7.
Safety Camryn Bynum had one heck of a game against the 49ers. The young defensive back made several big plays that helped the purple and gold secure the victory over one of the top teams in the conference.
In fact, he played so well that the NFL awarded him with the honor of being named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 7. Here is the announcement from the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the NFL.
Bynum had a massive day. He led all Minnesota Vikings defenders with nine combined tackles but also had some flashy plays. He intercepted San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy twice in prime time including a leaping pick where he stretched out to grab the ball out of the air and secure the victory.
The Vikings needed this win badly in order to not fall too far behind other teams in the NFC. After starting 0-3, Minnesota has won three of their last four games and will face off against division foe Green Bay next week.
A fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Camryn Bynum is only 25 years old. Combining him with veteran Harrison Smith has helped Minnesota in their first season under new defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Having a more aggressive approach to defense has been refreshing this year.
Congratulations to Camryn Bynum on earning Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 7. This makes back-to-back weeks for Minnesota Vikings players winning that honor since linebacker Jordan Hicks was the winner last week.
