After three seasons with the franchise, the Minnesota Vikings will reportedly cut or trade running back and kickoff return specialist Kene Nwangwu by Tuesday's final roster deadline at 3 p.m. CST, according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero.

The decision is certainly surprising since Nwangwu is one of the best kick returners in the entire NFL. But his specialty skills clearly weren't enough to save him a spot on Minnesota's final 2024 roster.

With the move, Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler are currently the only Vikings running backs on track to be included on the team's final 53-man roster, as Myles Gaskin was reportedly released by the team on Tuesday as well, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.,

Could the Minnesota Vikings bring back an old friend after moving on from Kene Kwangwu?

With Jones and Chandler being the only running backs on Minnesota's roster after all of the reported moves this week, it seems logical that the team will add another player to the position group before they step on the field for their regular-season opener on September 8th against the New York Giants.

Perhaps someone like Cam Akers could make his return to the Vikings this year after all? Akers joined a crowded Houston Texans running back room a few weeks ago despite multiple reports indicating that he was going to re-sign with Minnesota.

Last season, he appeared in six games for the Vikings before tearing his Achilles in the team's Week 9 win over the Atlanta Falcons. During his time on the field in 2023 with Minnesota, Akers provided a spark for a team's running back room, as he averaged 4.2 yards per touch.

If he becomes available on Tuesday, the Vikings should definitely consider adding him back to the team's offensive backfield for the upcoming season.
