The Minnesota Vikings are planning to resume negotiations for a possible new contract for quarterback Kirk Cousins during the upcoming 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

In what seems like a bit of a now-or-nothing type of scenario, the Minnesota Vikings will reportedly re-enter negotiations with Kirk Cousins about a new contract when representatives for the team and the quarterback are in Indianapolis, Indiana, this upcoming week for the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler shared this info during a recent edition of ESPN's "Sportscenter" in addition to some things that might get in the way of a new deal happening between the two parties.

"The Vikings, the feeling is they do want to re-sign him. They're certainly open to talks. They'll initiate talks around the NFL Scouting Combine next week.

Will guaranteed money be the sticking point? He's always gotten his guaranteed money.

Are the Vikings and the new regime willing to do that on a long-term or even short-term deal? They have to decide that in the next few weeks."

Future of Kirk Cousins with Minnesota Vikings will likely be known after the NFL Scouting Combine

Many people assume the annual NFL Scouting Combine is just a time for teams around the league to meet with draft prospects and watch how they perform in drills and workouts.

But the Combine is also a time when a number of future transactions are discussed. Most of the league's general managers attend the event, and so do a number of agents since they are typically representing some of the prospects that are participating.

So when Minnesota general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is in Indianapolis this week, it sounds like he will be meeting with Cousins' longtime agent, Mike McCartney.

Final offers from each side will probably be presented, and according to Fowler, it sounds like both the Vikings and Cousins would like to work out a new deal. At the same time, each party has their own set of requirements that need to be met in order for an agreement to be made.

It's possible that negotiations could continue on after the Combine ends. However, it seems like after this upcoming week, we will likely have a much better idea about whether Cousins will be returning to Minnesota for the 2024 season or not.
