Vikings training camp takeaway No. 3

One big omission and one big return

Starting right tackle Brian O'Neill was not a part of the first day's practice. An Achilles injury in Week 17 of last season required surgery and keeping him out was likely a precaution. Oli Udoh took the starting reps in his place.

On the defensive line, Harrison Phillips was a full-go. He had missed some time during minicamp but looks to be ready to go. This was confirmed by The Athletic's Alec Lewis when he shared some "quick notes" from the day's activities.

Speaking of the defense, Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated's FanNation noted that the starting unit looked a bit strange with only Phillips and Khyiris Tonga in the trenches with Marcus Davenport and D.J. Wonnum rushing the edges.

Perhaps this formation was to get a better look at the defensive backs or to see how the two big defensive lineman held up against the offensive line, but it's definitely something interesting to watch as camp continues.
