Takeaway No. 2

Lewis Cine more comfortable in Minnesota's new defense

Unfortunately, Lewis Cine's rookie season with the Vikings in 2022 was one big, giant letdown thanks to a freak leg injury that limited him to just three appearances.

This summer, Cine is back from his injury, and he's been a full participant in both of Minnesota's first two full-team training camp practices during the last two days. He reportedly hasn't been getting much work with the first-team defense, but don't be surprised if that changes during the next few weeks.

On Thursday, Cine shared that Minnesota's new defensive scheme under Brian Flores is a better fit for his skill-set than the scheme Ed Donatell ran last season. In regards to Flores' scheme, the second-year Vikings safety said that "it takes a lot of the thinking out of it and lets you go be a football player," according to The Athletic's Alec Lewis.

Lewis also shared that Cine revealed he didn't get on the field much before his injury last season because he "was still learning the defense."

Even though he's still getting mostly second-team reps this summer, Cine's chances of making an impact for Minnesota seem much higher than they did a year ago.
