Vikings share optimistic update about Justin Jefferson injury before Week 3
By Adam Patrick
To say the air was taken out of U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday when Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson went down with an injury in the middle of the team's Week 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers would be quite the understatement.
Jefferson left the contest in the middle of the third quarter after his thigh connected with the knee of a 49ers defender. He didn't return to the game, but luckily, the Vikings were still able to pull out a win over the 49ers.
Following the game, Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell revealed that Jefferson suffered a quad contusion against San Francisco and the wide receiver also shared that the injury is not believed to be anything serious.
Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson is day-to-day leading up to Week 3 game vs. Houston Texans
On Monday, O'Connell shared the following about Jefferson's injury and what his status is for this week leading up to the team's next game against the 2-0 Houston Texans.
"Justin [Jefferson] did come in today feeling pretty good which was a positive based upon the initial quad contusion that kind of happened on that run play. We'll be day to day with Justin, and we'll keep you guys posted throughout the week on his workload and what it looks like for Sunday, but positive in the early returns there."
O'Connell's update is about as good as anyone could have hoped for after Jefferson's early exit on Sunday. Minnesota will probably take it easy on him in practice this week, but all signs seem to be pointing to him playing next weekend against the Texans.
Like the Vikings, Houston is unbeaten so far this season, so it's likely going to be a close matchup inside U.S. Bank Stadium next Sunday. Minnesota is going to need everyone on their roster performing at their best in order to get a win, and having Jefferson on the field is only going to help their chances of leaving the field with a 3-0 record.
