There is less than a week until the Minnesota Vikings kick off their regular season on the road against the New York Giants. Expert expectations for the team are all over the place and it's hard to know how competitive the team will be in 2024.

Depending on how analysts feel about starting quarterback Sam Darnold, the range of wins being guessed has never been wider and the Vikings' place in a challenging NFC North division could have a lot to do with that.

Odd 2024 prediction has Vikings doing something for first time since 2013

Recently, Fantasy Pros released an article discussing bold fantasy predictions for every team in the league. The prediction that author Bo McBrayer has for the purple and gold isn't likely to sit well with fans of the team.

"Justin Jefferson is not a top-10 WR in PPR scoring; Vikings win only four games with Sam Darnold, even with Ty Chandler as the best ADP value among all RBs."

Bo McBrayer - Fantasy Pros

McBrayer clearly isn't a believer in quarterback Sam Darnold or running back Aaron Jones. He cites injury concerns for Jones and says Darnold is "a dreadful football player" in the article. However, it is the non-fantasy-related portion of his prediction that is interesting.

He has the Vikings as a four-win team in 2024. Minnesota hasn't suffered a season with five or fewer wins and finished last in the division since the team had a 5-10-1 record with Matt Cassell at quarterback and Leslie Frazier as head coach in 2013.

This would be the worst finishing record for the Vikings since 2011 when Minnesota finished with only three wins. In fact, the team has only won four or fewer games in a season six times since the inaugural season in 1961.

While it is possible that the Vikings struggle mightily during the 2024 NFL season, a four-win season would be hugely disappointing for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O'Connell despite this being a transition year for the franchise.

Although fantasy football players might be a little hesitant to draft Minnesota Vikings players to their teams this season, that doesn't mean the team will fail to perform on the field. This bold prediction could come true, but it would be a little surprising if the purple and gold aren't able to surpass four wins during the 2024 NFL season.
