Ever since the conclusion of the 2023 NFL season, way too much time has been wasted by people who believe that the Minnesota Vikings are actually interested in trading away All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson this year.
Earlier this month, it was Cincinnati Bengals fans forgetting about the salary cap and thinking their team could trade and pay for Jefferson to pair with his former college teammates, Ja'Marr Chase and Joe Burrow.
Now, it seems as though the fan base of another AFC North team has recently been convincing themselves that their squad could potentially make a trade for Minnesota's star pass-catcher this offseason.
Pittsburgh Steelers fans believe their team can trade for Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson
Thanks to a Twitter account that is believed to be owned by former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, a bunch of Pittsburgh Steelers fans have spent the last few days dreaming of Jefferson in a black and yellow jersey.
This rumor (and let's make sure this part is heavily emphasized) began after the Twitter account that many believe Brown is behind, CTESPNNetwork, recently shared a post that read, "source says Steelers and Vikings have talked on potential trade for Justin Jefferson."
For some reason, this post from someone with a reputation for doing almost anything for attention has caused some Pittsburgh fans to believe that their favorite team could potentially acquire Minnesota's top wide receiver this offseason.
Further fueling this bogus rumor are some recent comments from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. During an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show" on Monday, Dulac revealed that the Steelers are reportedly interested in adding one of the NFL's top wide receivers to their roster this year.
This has only resulted in an increase in speculation about Pittsburgh trading for Jefferson this offseason, despite the lack of existence of a single report about there even being a one percent chance of it happening from someone with an actual legitimate source.
During the last few weeks, Minnesota general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has made it extremely clear that the team has every intention of keeping Jefferson and signing him to a long-term contract extension in the near future.
Typically, the Vikings agree to extensions with players during the summer or closer to the start of the regular season. Minnesota appears to be doing the same thing with Jefferson, but for some strange reason, many have tried to spin his current absence of a contract extension as an indication that there is some sort of rift between him and the team.
Unless something (incredibly) drastic happens, the Vikings and Jefferson will likely agree to an extension sometime after June 1 of this year. Maybe, just maybe, people will stop speculating about him getting traded after that happens. But don't count on it.
