Randy Moss put together an incredible career with the Minnesota Vikings, but when speaking as a guest at Tom Brady’s New England Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony on Wednesday, he found out that his impact also reached the East Coast.
Moss was among a panel that included several former Patriots as Brady was honored in front of a sellout crowd at Gillette Stadium. When Moss began to speak, the Foxborough crowd gave Moss a standing ovation, moving the legendary receiver to tears.
“Y’all know it’s always good to feel this,” Moss said after regaining his composure. “I thank y’all.”
New England Patriots fans give Minnesota Vikings legend Randy Moss a standing ovation
Moss spent his first six seasons with the Vikings, catching 574 passes for 9,142 yards and 90 touchdowns while leading Minnesota to a pair of NFC Championship appearances in 1998 and 2000.
Moss was traded to the Oakland Raiders before the 2005 season and spent two seasons by the bay before he was eventually traded to the Patriots.
Moss revitalized his career with New England and took off once paired with Brady, catching 98 passes for 1,493 yards and an NFL-record 23 touchdowns in his first season with the Patriots in 2007.
He caught 259 passes for 3,904 yards and 50 touchdowns in just over three seasons with New England before being traded back to the Vikings in 2010 and finishing up his career with short stints with the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers.
Moss’s career was obviously good enough to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018, but he is also one of the greatest receivers in NFL history to never win a Super Bowl.
Moss’s time in New England is especially interesting considering he arrived in the middle of two dynasties, as the Patriots won three Super Bowls in 2002, 2004, and 2005 and three more in 2015, 2017, and 2019.
It led Moss to make a hilarious comment about the Deflategate scandal during last month’s roast of Brady.
“Why the f*** didn’t we cheat when I was there!?” Moss asked.
While Brady received his red jacket from the Patriots on Wednesday, Moss’s might not be far behind. Moss is already in the Vikings Ring of Honor, and maybe someday, he'll even have his No. 84 jersey retired by Minnesota.
