Top Minnesota Vikings QB since 1990

Daunte Culpepper (1999-2005)

Some might be surprised that Kirk Cousins isn't the selection for the Vikings, but in his time with the organization, his highest of highs have never even come close to what Daunte Culpepper was able to do during the prime of his NFL career.

In just his second season with Minnesota, Culpepper was inserted as the team's starting quarterback, and it was clear from the first time he stepped onto the field in 2000 that he wasn't like the majority of the signal-callers in the league at the time.

At 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Culpepper used his size to plow through defenders whenever he felt necessary. This, combined with a rocket arm, resulted in him accounting for a total of 164 touchdowns in the 81 games that he appeared in with the Vikings.

Culpepper and Cousins' numbers during their time with Minnesota are pretty similar, so what separates Culpepper from the team's current starting quarterback is the performance he had in 2004.

During the 2004 campaign, Culpepper set the franchise single-season records for passing yards, passing touchdowns, and passer rating. If not for Peyton Manning also playing out of his mind in 2004, Culpepper likely would have become the first Vikings quarterback to be named the NFL MVP since Fran Tarkenton in 1975.
