The Atlanta Falcons are said to believe that Minnesota Vikings free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins would make them a contender.

As expected, conversations about where quarterback Kirk Cousins will end up in free agency are heating up. Even though he could re-sign with the Minnesota Vikings, rumors are heating up that the Atlanta Falcons will be interested in his services.

Atlanta has a little more salary cap space than the Vikings but they feel they need to upgrade to the quarterback position if they want to win with new head coach Raheem Morris criticizing the play of the Falcons' quarterbacks last season.

Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke are both interesting players, but it's easy to see why the Falcons would have an interest in a consistent and accurate quarterback like Kirk Cousins to lead their team during the 2024 NFL season.

Why else would the Falcons want Kirk Cousins?

Recently, Dianna Russini shared an article on The Athletic where she talked about some of her takeaways from conversations at the NFL Scouting Combine. Topics included Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins, and the 2024 NFL Draft.

Russini talked about the familiarity of Atlanta's coaching staff with Cousins. Citing that their familiarity with the Vikings quarterback "makes all the sense in the world" as to why they would pursue him in free agency.

She also said that "they believe Cousins is the type of player who moves from a fringe playoff team to a contender." While that is arguable, it is completely understandable to want to do whatever you can to improve your roster, especially at a key position like quarterback.

While there are still Minnesota Vikings who would love to see Kirk Cousins return to the team, the veteran quarterback is likely to draw significant attention from teams looking to upgrade at quarterback when free agency begins.
