Kirk Cousins held down the starting quarterback job for the Minnesota Vikings since his arrival in 2018. With the exception of the 2023 NFL season, the quarterback was one of the most reliable and trusted players in the league.

Sadly, a torn Achilles tendon forced Cousins out of action last season after playing only eight games with the Vikings. His contest against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8 would be the final time he suited up for the purple and gold.

As a free agent, Kirk Cousins signed a four-year deal worth $180 million with the Atlanta Falcons, If he completes that contract, he will be 40 years old when the deal ends and he becomes a free agent once again.

The Falcons surprised many people when they drafted Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall pick. The pick itself or the player at the spot weren't too interesting, but the fact that they had just signed Cousins to a massive contract raised some eyebrows.

Unsurprisingly, questions about the availability of Kirk Cousins started to arise since the healing time on an Achilles tendon injury can be significant. The topic of whether or not Penix was drafted to hold down the fort until Cousins was ready for action was a real discussion.

However, those questioning Cousins' availability will need to eat some crow after seeing a video shared by the Falcons on X (formerly Twitter). The video shows the quarterback making dropbacks and throws effortlessly.

Cousins looks a little strange in a Falcons helmet, but that dropback should be very familiar to Vikings fans. He appears to drive the ball well, which should be a great sign that he will be ready when the regular season rolls around.

The situation with Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins in Atlanta is still a little confusing, but now it seems apparent that The Washington quarterback was not drafted because of concerns about the veteran passer's availability.

It is clear that Cousins has worked hard to be ready for the upcoming season following his devastating injury with the Minnesota Vikings. Questions about his availability should be quieted now as the Atlanta Falcons look to become a threat in the NFC South.

We at The Viking Age would like to wish the best of luck to Kirk Cousins in Atlanta...unless they are facing the Minnesota Vikings, of course.
