Rumor suggests Kirk Cousins and Falcons player have already discussed future
By Adam Patrick
A recent rumor suggest Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins and Atlanta Flacons tight end Kyle Pitts have already talked about a jersey number swap.
In the days since the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, more and more signs have been pointing to Kirk Cousins leaving the Minnesota Vikings this offseason to sign with the Atlanta Falcons.
On Monday, ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio shared a report that Cousins and his family are "seriously considering" a move to Atlanta, which would indicate that he plans to sign with the Falcons this year.
On Tuesday, Florio shared another piece of intriguing info that continues to point to Atlanta as the team the veteran quarterback will be playing for next season.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins and Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts have possibly discussed a jersey number swap
During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday, Florio had the following to say about a rumored conversation that Cousins has possibly had with a notable member of the Falcons offense.
"There's [been] an effort [by Cousins] to look [in Atlanta] for, maybe, schools for the kids [and a] house for the family... and I haven't confirmed this part yet, but it's just one of those little things that makes sense. [Cousins has potentially talked] to the guy who currently wears No. 8 [for the Falcons], Kyle Pitts, about getting No. 8 before any of this stuff is done."
To make this clear, Florio clearly says that he has not confirmed whether or not a conversation between Cousins and Atlanta tight end Kyle Pitts has truly been had in the recent past.
However, he does mention that it's something that would make sense if the Vikings quarterback is going to sign with the Falcons since he's worn the No. 8 on his jersey for the majority of his football career, and Pitts currently wears the No. 8 on his uniform for Atlanta.
NFL rules don't allow Cousins and the Falcons to legally discuss a potential contract until next Monday, but it seems like plenty of conversations between the two parties have already been had this offseason.
