Surprising choice made by Vikings in early 2024 mock draft
By Adam Carlson
A recent mock draft has the Minnesota Vikings making a somewhat surprising selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Making the right selections during the early rounds of the NFL Draft can make or break a franchise like the Minnesota Vikings and predicting who teams will select with their picks is extremely difficulr for even the most skilled analysts.
At the moment, it feels the safest to link defensive prospects or perhaps an attempt at a franchise quarterback is in the cards. Instead, a recently released mock draft has the purple and gold looking to add even more weapons in the passing game.
Pro Football Network's Cam Mellor shared his most recent mock draft and the Vikings' selection is interesting and a bit surprising.
In the mock, Minnesota selects LSU WR Malik Nabers.
First of all, the mock has the Vikings picking at No. 14 overall, meaning the expectation is that Minnesota won't be very close to being a playoff-caliber team if their selection is in the first half of the draft.
However, picking that early would allow them to get a potentially great player like Malik Nabers. The six-foot-one receiver had 72 receptions for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns for LSU in 2022 with his 2021 numbers being much less impressive.
The assumption for Nabers to be selected at this point would have to be another big year for receptions and yardage while stepping up his touchdown numbers. At the moment, he only has seven receiving touchdowns at the collegiate level.
What would you think of adding another LSu wide receiver to the Minnesota Vikings roster? And would another pass catcher be a big enough priority for the team for them to use their first-round draft pick on Malik Nabers?
