If anyone has watched the Netflix series Receiver, you know about the segment which mentions Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson and how he's essentially caught almost every career ball from his former quarterback Kirk Cousins, to this point in his career.
Cousins meant a great deal to this Vikings team for a few seasons, and was instrumental in helping Jefferson get off to such a historical start to his career. The two of them will be connected for the rest of their lives.
But now, Cousins is with the Atlanta Falcons after having signed a monster free agent deal with the team. It's officially a new era in Minnesota, but that doesn't mean folks have forgotten about the impact Cousins made.
Tight end T.J. Hockenson only played a season and a half with Cousins, but the two of them shared a strong friendship.
On a recent episode of Barstool's "Bussin with the Boys" podcast, Hockenson was asked about his former quarterback and his overall thoughts on Cousins' move to Atlanta.
Not lost in this interview was the notion that Cousins did, in fact, ask Hockenson for some advice which he could implement with his new team in Atlanta.
Hockenson said Cousins would not only text him asking him how he was doing, but also something along these lines:
"Hey do you have any plays that, you know, that we ran last year, that would be good that you remember?"
Despite hilariously asking T.J. Hockenson for assistance, Vikings fans can appreciate the relationship Kirk Cousins shares with his former tight end
To be frank, Cousins isn't wrong for picking Hockenson's brain despite being on different teams. As the old saying goes, "It's who know you." Cousins is merely using his relationships to his advantage, assuming Hockenson gave him any helpful insight, that is.
Even going past the idea that Cousins sought direction from Hockenson, though, you could tell the two of them shared (and continue to share) a special relationship. Vikings fans will always remember Cousins being a good person, if nothing else, and one of the ultimate teammates and competitors.
"I love Kirk, I mean, just a great dude ... I wish nothing but the best for Kirk," Hockenson said referring to his former quarterback's new start in Atlanta.
Hockenson mentioned the fact that Cousins' wife, Julie, is from the Atlanta area and has family down there. So, from an uninformed perspective, things made a whole lot more sense after knowing something like that. The tight end seemed genuinely happy for Cousins and his family, knowing he's on the tail end of his career.
"At the end of the day, it's not just, you were a teammate ... you were a friend," Hockenson said of his old teammate.
For long-tenured veterans, they're guys that understand the idea of football being a brotherhood better than most, and these two men are a great example of that.
But seriously, T.J., don't go helping another team anymore.
