One day before the Minnesota Vikings kick off their preseason against the Las Vegas Raiders, the team made an interesting move to deal a young defensive back they invested a second-round pick in during the 2022 NFL Draft.

This is an interesting move considering the Vikings have issues with depth at cornerback. There would have been opportunities for players to make a positive impression during the preseason and possibly make the 53-man roster.

Minnesota moved on from former Clemson defender Andrew Booth Jr. At one time, Booth looked like a high-potential player who could develop into a contributor for the Vikings, but he will have a new team for the 2024 NFL season.

NFL.com and NFL Network insider Ian Rappoport shared on his X account that the Vikings have worked out a trade with the Dallas Cowboys to swap Booth for fellow cornerback Nahshon Wright in a deal that went down on Friday.

Wright was a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Oregon State. The 25-year-old defensive back stands six-foot-four and weighs 185 pounds. He played in 32 games for the Cowboys in three seasons, starting three games for Dallas in that time.

An active special teams contributor as well, Wright came off injured reserve because of a high-ankle sprain in October. It will be interesting to see how he fits with what the Vikings are doing defensively under coordinator Brian Flores.

Meanwhile, Andrew Booth Jr. joins former Minnesota defender Eric Kendricks in Dallas to work under defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and will get a fresh start with the Cowboys where he will hope to shake off his rough start with the Vikings.

Booth played in 23 games for Minnesota and started two contests during his time with the Vikings. Moving on from a second-round pick after only two seasons is an interesting move considering the depth issues at cornerback.

This could be a great opportunity for two young defenders to make a great impression on their new teams. Both cornerbacks showed potential at the collegiate level but have struggled to make an impact in the NFL.

Welcome to the Minnesota Vikings, Nahshon Wright. Also, we at The Viking Age would like to wish Andrew Booth Jr. nothing but the best in the 2024 NFL season as well as his future endeavors in the league.
