On Friday, many Minnesota Vikings fans woke up to the news that the list of free-agent quarterbacks had become even smaller after Joe Flacco agreed to a deal with the Cleveland Browns. The move has left some even more confused about what the Vikings have planned for the No. 2 quarterback spot on their roster this year.
But while many have assumed that Minnesota would like to bring in a veteran signal-caller to be the team's top backup behind J.J. McCarthy for next season, what if the Vikings have had an entirely different plan this entire time?
What if Minnesota has reached a point this offseason where they have become more intrigued with the possibility of using one of their selections in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft to fill the team's QB2 role?
Is the next QB2 for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2025 NFL Draft?
Currently, the Vikings have four selections in this year's NFL Draft. Minnesota has one pick in the first round (24th overall), one in the third (97th), and two in the fifth (139th and 187th).
Now, are the Vikings going to consider using their first-round selection on a quarterback this year? That seems highly unlikely unless Minnesota isn't as confident in McCarthy as the team's starter as they've led everyone to believe.
It's possible that the Vikings could add a quarterback with their third-round pick, since it's at the very end of the round, but the team using one of its two selections in the fifth round is what seems to be the most logical scenario.
Some of the passing prospects who could still be available when it comes time for Minnesota to make its first pick in the fifth round this year include Syracuse's Kyle McCord, Ohio State's Will Howard, Oregon's Dillon Gabriel, and Notre Dame's Riley Leonard.
Will any of these prospects interest the Vikings enough to ultimately cause the team to use one of their only four selections in them?
