Another report connects former Giants QB Daniel Jones to Vikings
By Adam Patrick
Back during an interview on "The Rich Eisen Show" in October, Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell shared his belief that "organizations fail young quarterbacks before young quarterbacks fail organizations." Well, according to a recent report, O'Connell might get to test out this theory in the near future with former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday, the Vikings are reportedly among the two "likeliest" teams to sign Jones at some point during the next few days. The Baltimore Ravens are the other team that Schefter included in this group of likely destinations for the former Giants signal-caller.
Minnesota was previously speculated as a possible landing spot for Jones in 2025 earlier this week by KSTP's Darren Wolfson, but with New York waiving him on Saturday, he can now sign with the Vikings before the end of the 2024 season if he wants.
Should the Minnesota Vikings sign former New York Giants QB Daniel Jones?
At first glance, the initial reaction by most Minnesota fans might be to scoff at the idea of the Vikings signing Jones this season. But if Minnesota were to bring him in, it wouldn't be for him to be a starter.
Jones would be a better backup option for the Vikings behind Sam Darnold, and adding him would also give the team an opportunity to figure out if they would like to re-sign him in 2025 to be their top backup behind J.J. McCarthy.
Many of the thoughts that people currently have about Jones are similar to the ones that were expressed about Darnold prior to the start of the 2024 season. But with O'Connell's help, the former No. 3 overall pick by the New York Jets has been able to quiet a significant amount of his doubters this year.
Could Jones become the next former New York quarterback to have his career steered back in the right direction by the Minnesota head coach?
