The Minnesota Vikings just completed what can only be described as an odd experience. The team went through the biggest acquisition periods of the offseason without a general manager. After firing Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in January, the franchise thought it would be best to get through free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft before hiring a new general manager.

That’s exactly what the team did, and now that the roster-building business is taken care of, the Vikings are dialing in on their general manager search. One of the most recent steps in that process was requesting an interview with someone who has a lot of history in Minnesota.

According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero on Wednesday, the Vikings have reportedly requested to interview Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Terrance Gray, who previously spent more than a decade working with Minnesota.

Minnesota Vikings reportedly request to interview Buffalo Bills assistant GM Terrance Gray

Gray has been in Buffalo since 2017, as part of the Brandon Beane regime, and has helped the Bills be perennial contenders over the last half-decade.

Prior to his time with the Bills, Gray worked with the Kansas City Chiefs and spent 11 years with the Vikings as a scout. That’s why it makes sense that Minnesota is interested in interviewing him for the general manager job, and why he is the franchise’s first known external candidate.

The Vikings handed the keys to Executive Vice President of Football Operations Rob Brzezinski after the firing of Adofo-Mensah, and Brzezinski operated as the team’s interim general manager — with significant input from other decision-makers in the franchise.

Brzezinski is, obviously, a candidate for the full-time role, but he isn’t being handed the job.

He will have to go through the interview process with the rest of the candidates, and it’s now clear that the candidate pool includes Gray.

With Minnesota’s search really just getting underway, it’ll be interesting to see what other candidates, both external and internal, get added into the mix.

One thing is already clear, though: whoever is ultimately named as general manager will inherit a promising situation.

The Vikings have a stable coaching situation with Kevin O’Connell running things, and the team is just one season removed from a 14-3 record in 2024. Even last season, which was a massive disappointment, the team was still 9-8.

The Vikings are just looking for someone who can build on that success and help the team sustain it.
