This Minnesota Vikings' minicamp has a different feel from past ones, as there is a new franchise quarterback who will start, but the talent level around J.J. McCarthy is impressive.

The offensive line was reconstructed with center Ryan Kelly and right guard Will Fries, as well as rookie first-round pick Donovan Jackson holding down the left guard position. McCarthy is loaded with skilled players, including Aaron Jones Sr., Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson.

This doesn't include the defense, which features Jonathan Allen, Javon Hargrave, Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel, and Harrison Smith. It's safe to say Minnesota is fully loaded and ready for the 2025 season.

That is what's giving one of their new additions the confidence in the team and McCarthy.

Ryan Kelly makes bold claim about the 2025 Minnesota Vikings

After the Vikings finished their second day of mandatory minicamp, Kelly made it known how he felt about this Minnesota team.

“This is the most talented team I’ve ever been around top to bottom.”

Kelly spent the first nine seasons in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, during which time they made the playoffs only twice. He unfortunately caught the tail end of the Andrew Luck era, and the Colts went through a flex of quarterbacks.

Now, the quarterback he is working for is entering his second season in the league, but it is McCarthy’s first season as a starting quarterback. The Athletic's Alec Lewis recently shared that Kelly is taking a different approach to helping McCarthy develop, allowing him to learn on his own and grow from there.

“If you never have to do all of this, you’re looking through it like a tiny lens. In order to see the full picture, you have to have coaches who demand that of you.

His development to understand is more important than me showing how capable I am. We want to push this guy, and he’s responded incredibly well. He’s a very smart guy.”

McCarthy has been receiving similar praise from several members of the team, like Kelly, from his head coach, Kevin O'Connell, to his top receiver, Jefferson. Everyone agrees that, despite the lack of experience, McCarthy is well-suited for this moment.

Having Kelly there will pay off during the regular season as he and McCarthy develop that quarterback-center rapport. Kelly was not kidding when this team is going to be special as they are loaded from top to bottom, but it all falls on McCarthy's development in 2025.
